Are professional players getting paid too much???

This is for a class, I need thorough answers on your opinion.

The question is "do you think professional players are getting paid too much?" I personally think they do, but i need other peoples opinions.

Are professional players getting paid too much???
No! If this is for a class, than I have the best answer for you. Every professional of any type, be it a sports player, a politician, or a McDonald's employee is worth something. These people are worth what they produce. Sometimes you may get a little more or a little less than what you are worth, but that all just depends on how active you are on asking for an increase in pay. If you've ever taken economics, you will realize that the world is full of markets. The professional sports arena is a market. The sports players are generating revenue through entertainment. Certain players fill the stands, without those players to entertain and fill seats, people wouldn't watch the game or attend it, generating less revenue. Whatever that gap is, is what they deserve. The best example of this is Reggie Jackson in the 70's moving from the Oakland A's in free agency to the New York Yankee's, google this one! Free agency was the first understanding that a major league baseball player had of how much they were actually worth, because they saw how much other players of a similar quality were getting paid for by different teams around the league. Jackson got a good amount of money, and it paid off for a young Steinbrenner who ended up winning the championship, and the Yankees were back on top once again.
Reply:Yes! Given what they are required to do they are clearly over paid. Look at the rest of our society, the bulk of the social responsibility in this country doesn't lye in their shoulders. It is on the shoulders of the teachers, economists, financial institutions and the working class american. You don't always see what it takes to make this country great, but I assure you that it doesn't require throwing a ball or catching a pass.
Reply:IF THEY AREN'T WORTH THE MONEY THEY'RE BEING PAID, WHY ARE THE OWNERS PAYING THEM? THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THESE ATHLETES ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD AT WHAT THEY DO. THE BEST CONSULTANTS IN THE WORLD MAKE VAST AMOUNTS OF MONEY, AND DON'T USUALLY WORK NEAR AS HARD AS THESE ATHLETES DO.
Reply:No, because if people are willing to pay to see them play they might as well be getting paid for it. If they weren't making the money it would all just stay with the owners.
Reply:yes there are many, one in particular is T.O., he had 5 more passes thrown to him by Drew Bledsoe than anyother player on thhis team. Yet he caught the least and he is the second highest paid person on his team.
Reply:yes and no
Reply:Yes, but so are all pro athletes and "movie stars."
Reply:In some ways they are but like in any business people get paid a percentage of the money they help generate. Sports are highly competitive and extremely difficult to succeed professionally but the interest they geneate from fans also generates money and the players get their percentage.
Reply:Of course they are, but don't put all the blame on the

players !

If the owners are foolish enough, i'd take the money too !
Reply:It depends on where parts of the player's salary ends up. The player themselves may have to pay certain things like an agent's salary, travel accommodations, a personal trainer's salary, etc. I guess when it all comes down to it, I personally think they still get paid too much.
Reply:Yes they are but if people willing to pay 100 dollar tickets then yea they should be pay!

Supply and damand
Reply:yeah they are....thats why college football is so much better but in the nfl there are so many greedy players that when a manager signs them the players want a certain amount each year and i believe that the average player is making close to 2 million a year. You dont see many NFL players just playin for the love of the game and dont care how much their gettin paid.
Reply:They are paid what they are worth based off of market conditions. If Steinbrenner can afford to have $500 mil in annual saleries, imagine what HIS take is.
Reply:YES,I THINK SO.
