why not...we see allot worse than that just watching cable...
Conversation I had with people i work with what is your opinion on having pay per view execution of criminals?
Nothing to see; guy lays on gurney and goes to sleep...dosen't sound like big ratings to me.
Reply:It is sick and nasty in my opinion, but not unheard of. To avoid hypocracy, I admit to watching Faces of Death while in college.
Prior to TV, or even post TV era, people would gather regularly to witness executions, or travel miles at their own expense to prisons to observe or protest executions. Public policy forbids ppv executions on TV, but that doesn't mean that people don't want to see it. Why else would people line up for hours in modern times to see beheadings in Iran, public floggings in Thailand, etc.?
Reply:sick or is it
Reply:Barbaric, however the money could pay for the execution and be returned to the prison system.
So sure.
Reply:it will hurt you for months ,for nothing in advance
Reply:i would not want to see it and i think it would be wrong its not a movie, its a real person-criminal or not. and i couldn't sleep with myself watchimg death. EWE
Reply:Don't want to see it. Enough for me to know they were executed.
Reply:It could offset the expense of all the appeals, it wouldn't be much to watch though, they just put them to sleep. not like "The Green Mile" anymore.

Reply:Seriously!
Has it really come to this folks?! Are there not more important events happening on this planet, or in our pathetic lives, that we even pose this question?!
Reply:None for me, thanks.
Reply:The overwhelming majority of executed criminals are convicted murderers who come from the poorer socio-economic classes. They are not necessarily bad people, just people who've done a bad thing or things. Some mistakes in life can't be undone, such as killing another human being. Murdering another person dehumanizes humanity. Executions, traditionally, were done because societies could not afford to keep a condemned prisioner in jail for the rest of his life. That is not necessarily the case in today. Executing a prisoner in today's society may or may not help the victim's family "heal" their grievious loss but it gives legal sanction to the unnecessary termination of another's life, which if found to be in error cannot be undone. At best a wrongfully executed person can only be exhonorated with the utmost difficulty because the legal system and the politicians are highly reluctant if not adamant that such a mistake could not have taken place. How often has it been said of the wrongfully convicted by presiding judges and district attorney's that the accused had a "fair trial." In other words in this life there is "some justice" but when a person faces the court they always get "the law." Executing a prisoner who is no threat to society is "dehumanization enshrined in law." Offering such an execution on pay-per-view would only draw in the morbidly curious or the psychotics in our society. There are more psychotics outside the jails in our world than inside them. These psychotics are in the work-place, at church, on the roads. They can be found anywhere. Most of them don't chance breaking the law unless they think they can get away with because no one will realize what they've done or "everyone" will keep silent about what they've done.
Reply:Hmmm interesting conversation for the water cooler...
I would rate it up there with George Carlins PPV suicide network...
Reply:I don't think that we should see this as entertainment at all. How could anyone get joy from someones death? Why the hell would anyone want to watch it happen??
One more way we are like the Romans of the past!
Reply:Well, I suppose that would be a twist on the old hangings of the old west!
Reply:one part of me is weirdly interested in watching it, and the other part is mortified that they would make you pay to watch someone die or even show it on televison. so im kinda split dow n the middle.
Reply:It's disgusting. There is a Bible verse, It's either Psalms 11:5 or 5:11, not sure which. "But those who love violance HIS soal hates." Paying to see exicutions may bring comfort to some, but to others (I'm thinking the goth community) it's like food for the soul. How aweful is that?!?!?
Reply:Any sane person would answer deplorable. Even the question is hideous. However, I think it will happen in our life time.
