It does not pay to live a long life. What is your opinion?

i need this for my homework!!! help please!!!

It does not pay to live a long life. What is your opinion?
It isn't important to live a long life, but it should be a meaning full one.look at the oak tree,it lives for 300 years ,but it is of no use to others.on the other hand take an example of a lily, it has a extremely short life,it just lives for a day, n then withers away, but during it's lifetime it spreads a lot of radiance ,beauty and fragrance around it.it enlivens the environment. There's no use of living a life which is of no gud to others.
Reply:living a long life seems like a good idea untill you look at how long you are going to live after you retire.are you going to have enough money to support your self is there going to be any social security left for you.what about medical bills.can you pay for your medicine.so really unless you have made a butt load of money it wont pay off,you may find youself broke and in a county home or worse homeless.
Reply:No.it doen`t .The longer you live the more pain you will have .

You lose loved ones through death .

Your body functions break down slowly .

You develope diseases that are painful and dibilitating.

The younger generation has no respect for you .

It is harder to get around .

Its lonely in my world now and i`m only 55!
Reply:It does if you are healthy and do creative things through out your life.
Reply:Is your teacher retarded? How can having a long life be bad? They only thing I can think of is that when one tops 90 years of age, they don't get around so well and their vision is poor. Isn't being alive better than being dead?
Reply:It sounds to me like your teacher/professor is trying to get at the point of how much money it takes to live after you retire. For example, you can start to get social security when you turn 65. The government then gives you money every month for the rest of your life. However, when Social Security was developed, people were living to 75-80 yrs max. Now people are living into their 90's and even 100's. Social Security was not made to pay people for that long and is now under the threat of basically going bankrupt. Think about how much money it takes for you to survive one year now. Think about how much money it will take for you to live 30+ years in retirement (don't forget to compensate for inflation and healthcare) compared to 5-10 years in retirement. So if by "pay" your teacher/professor literally meant finances, then, no, it definitely doesn't "pay" to live a long life.
