Is it just me or do others think this guy Marc Ecko is a complete idiot for paying $752,467 for a damn ball that he's just trying to destroy?
I could careless about the debate of Barry and the steriod issue cause honestly, you all know as well as I do the the majority of them are taking steriods in some shape or form. I'm not condoening steriod use, but my problem is just with the fact that someone would throw away that kind of money to do something so rediculous. Come on now, you have to be some kind of fool to pay that kind of money for something and then just want to make a mockery of it and destroy it, send it to the moon!!!
I seriously don't understand this guy! I mean that money could have put to very good use and given to charity, homeless, poor kids, college scholarships, feed the hungry, etc. That's just so much money wasted just to do something stupid. What do you all think about this?
Your Opinion of the Barry Bonds Home Run Ball Issue?
You're right the money could have been donated to charity and could have helped people who need the help. I think Ecko is smart to have put the choice on the internet of what to do with the ball. It does give him a great deal of attention and publicity. For all I know, he may give a lot of money to charitable causes. Bonds is a cheater and a liar, pure and simple. Read the book "Game of Shadows". It is not possible to read this book and feel Bonds did not knowingly used steroids following the 1998 season in which Mark McGwire broke Roger Maris's single season home run record. Grand Jury testimony by Bonds denied using steroids totally. His trainer, Greg Anderson, is in jail now and refuses to testify against Bonds. As far as the majority of MLB players using steroids, you could be right. It is hard to say because the Players Union has opposed more extensive drug testing and there is no test for HGH. The fans are also somewhat to blame in this whole mess, as they keep going to the games and cheering for the home runs hit by muscle-bound players who have probably acheived their records by use of performance-enhancing drugs. The owners also have their heads in the sand especially the SF Giants owner, Mr. McGowan.
Reply:Ok, I've heard all the debate about what Marc Ecko is doing with the ball... what would you think of someone who spent 3/4 of a million dollars on a ball and put it in a box? or on their mantel? someone was going to spend an exorbitant amount of money on this ball and see little to no return on the investment... so what? its not your money. Mr Ecko is trying to make a statement, and in turn is allowing anyone who feels strongly enough to vote on it make a statement as well. thats all there is to it.
as a side note... im sure he's hoping "send it into space" doesnt win, because that will cost him a bundle
Reply:Mark Ecko couldn't make publicity for himself like this if he paid an agency $7,000,000! He's a genius. Look, he has the money to pay for the ball and then some, but how many people knew his name before this? Now everyone knows him. He's bound to end up MAKING money on the deal. That is why rich people are rich and the rest of us aren't. To you and me 3/4 of a millions is a lot. To him, it's play money that can make a fellow famous. He's a genius.
Reply:yawn
Reply:I voted to be branded, It's his money, we can't tell him how to spend it, that would be communism... The main issue is Barry bonds, how he lied and cheated, when my friend's son heard the news, it broke his heart, I hate him for that....
Reply:I think Barry Bonds is a disgrace to baseball. I know there is no proof he took steroids. But he does not get along with the media and hates the fans that support him.
I mean that guy could sell that ball back on ebay for some other idiot that willing to pay more money....because it will collector's item if he ends in the hall of fame....who knows.
Reply:Too much money, not enough brains
Reply:It is a waste of money, and I didn't even think about it that way until you brought it up. It's too bad he didn't take the money and use it for scholarships or something worthwhile. It just goes to show you that money only amplifies the kind of person you are. I don't care about the ball, or Barry Bonds. The sad part is that the fan who caught the ball had to sell it because he couldn't afford to keep it, because Uncle Fricking Sam would take a huge cut.
Reply:Believe me...I'm trying really hard NOT to think about this.
Your point, someone wasted money. Well, rich people waste money every time they buy a car past their 2nd, every time they buy a house past their 1st, etc.
Rich people waste money. It's what they do to feel rich.
If you had that money, you could do what you wanted with it, and I wouldn't care.
While your thoughts are noble in nature (charity, kids, etc), it is unrealistic of rich people.
They do donate money, but I think they calculate it to a dime for tax write-off purposes.
I doubt many of them give much more than is necessary to maximize tax benefits.
There are exceptions...of course.
Reply:A fool and his money are soon parted. But it's his money, so he can be as foolish as he wants.
Reply:I thought it was funny. But, I do think Ecko spent too much money on it, but hey...he has the money to do that. I voted to send it into space. XD
Reply:We should shove it up his azz and be done with it.
Reply:The ball belongs in the Hall Of Fame until It is proven. Yeha i have my personal thoughts on Barry Bonds. I dont know any other person whoms head has grown two sizes and and his feet have grown 2 1/2 sizes after he hit 30.He probably did or is still taking hgh.But until they prove it he is the homerun king. And the only person whom can prove it is staying stron sitting in a federal prison for not cooperating with the investigation. Someday after Barry retires the truth may eventually come out, but until then though everyone may know the truth he is innocent until Proven guilty. I dont even like bonds and I hope AROD breaks his record in a few years. But until then I beleive the ball belongs in the hall and Mr ECKO has way too much free money on his hands.
Reply:I think Marc Ecko is an idiot for letting the public decide what should be done with the ball. It should obviously go to the Hall of Fame. It was the record breaking ball so it has its place in history.
Reply:Mark Ecko is a genius!! Look at all the publicity he's getting for his clothing line. He has gobbled up the front page headlines, appeared on TV shows, etc. He actually got away cheap in terms of advertising costs.
Oh, in regards to your comment about putting money to better uses, when did Bonds EVER do that? He wouldn't even sign autographs for sick and terminally ill children in a Pennsylvania hospital while a member of the Pirates. Bonds is the one you should be after to put his millions to good use, not Mark Ecko.
Reply:While I wouldn't have paid that kind of money for the thing I would destroy it if given the chance, as a statement.
Steroids made breaking a revered record (and others) a complete farce and desecrating what should be a hallowed object is a direct parallel.
A bigger statement however would be if the guy who caught it destroyed it.
