for those who rescue do you pay pull fees?
The way the shelters work here are you adopt and you pay the "adoption fee" to the vet.
now a shelter is saying they will not adopt to us unless we pay a 10$ pull fee, plus 85$ to the vets.
(our adoption fee is 100$)
What is your opinion on pull fees?
We have had a few shelters charge us a pull fee. I would imagine they are trying to recoup food costs with this, but I don't agree with it. In most cases, when we pull, the dog has had no vetting done anyway, and most are in pretty bad condition. They don't even bathe them. With the costs involved in getting our dogs ready for adoption, it really stinks that we have to add this pull fee on to the adoption cost. The whole point is that the dog is affordable. We definitely throw more money out than we take in!
Our adoptions fees are based on age of animal and how much we have in vet bills. We have a lowest and highest fee, to prevent the cost from being too ridiculous.
I think the shelters should just give us the dogs. They won't have to pay for any materials of labor to care for the dog if it isn't there.
Reply:Do they charge you a restocking fee if you take a dog out of their kennel, and then decide not to adopt?
Reply:A "pull fee" sounds ridiculous...I've never even heard that term before.
I wouldn't pay it. Sounds like someone trying to pocket an extra ten bucks. I thought shelters would be happy to get an animal out of a cage and into a home...not make it seem like a hassle by charging money. I adopted from the pound. I paid $25 for one dog (already neutered,) and $75 for another...which I got a $50 rebate after I had him neutered. I of course paid all the vet bills...but the SPCA offered me discounted vet services for adopting with animal control.
Reply:I think that since they have "added" this cost to you, that it would be reasonable for you to reduce your donations to them. You have to remember what you purpose here is and that is to save the ones you can. It seems like a slap in the face for your rescue to make donations and then later, the shelter makes it more difficult for you to acquire animals by tacking on a fee. They should raise their adoption fees if they need more income to support their shelter, not go after dedicated rescues trying to help animals.
Reply:That is absolutly normal!
I pulled a 3 months old boxer last week from Ohio %26amp; his fee was 60 but hte additional fees add up to a total of 180$
I agree with the fees because there are many posers out there that will go to shelter if they are free of charge %26amp; they will resell the pup for cash or even worse fight the dogs because what are thye losing!
See because you have a connection with them you should know they are in need of $$ and a fee should not be an issue.
If you are in need of money then why are you taking in a dog the cost $$ I think you just expect to get the dog without the fee because you were helping them at one time.
By the way thumbs down doesn't bither me I am honest so who doesn't agree too bad!
