I pay $58 a month for liability on a 93 Explorer. I live in the middle of nowhere and don't drive exceedingly. Just wondering if you think this is an acceptable rate or not. I don't think it's too bad but a friend of mine insists I'm getting ripped off.
Your opinion of my car insurance?
Well, I have to say I agree with your friend. I guess it all really depends on circumstances such as your age, city, driving record, type of car, etc. Personally, I am 26 years old (27 in October), and I live in Milwaukee, WI. I have a 2004 Honda Accord Coupe that I bought brand new in 04 and a 2007 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle that I just bought in June. I've had my same insurance company since I was 16 years old. From 16 to 18 years old, I incrued 3 speeding tickets all of which no longer appear on my driving record, but I did get another one last year. I believe that one may not even show up on my record either (drops off your record after 1 year). My insurance rates are as follows: Accord (car): $45.00 per month for full coverage with maximum payout limits with a $500.00 deductable. Motorcycle: $15.00 per month for full coverage, again with the maximum payout limits should an accident occur with a $200.00 out of pocket deductable. So to sum it up, I pay $60.00 per month to fully insure a car and a bike at the maximum full coverage limits. If I were you and you have a good driving record, etc. I would shop around for other more affordable insurance. I think you would be able to find something cheaper. Try Farmer's Insurance. That's who I go through. Needless to say, I've been hit more than 3 times in my car by uninsured people who didn't have a pot to piss in let alone car insurance. Each time, I had to recover using my own insurance. They've NEVER given me a hard time about paying for anything! And they've always managed to recover the deductable I had to pay as well (they recovered it from the people that hit me, and once from the other party's insurance company.) They've been more than great to me!

Reply:It doesn't sound bad to me. If she thinks you're getting ripped off, you should get the name of her insurance company/broker and get a quote from them.
