Are Educational Speakers that visit schools and private functions paid for their services?

Or are these people that just enjoy what they do and speak as charity work at different places?

I have a passion for something and want to educate the public on it and would like to do it for a living. If you have any known places where more info on this can be found please let me know.

Many are paid by whomever they are speaking for and others can dictate if or how much they are paid by what they "sell".

If a speaker offers books, CDs, DVDs or some combination of products they typically give attendees only a portion of their education during their presentation. Attendees must purchase the speakers materials to get the rest of their information. Speakers can realize nice returns on their materials; speakers materials can and does run into hundreds of dollars per sale.

The only speakers that I personally am aware of to receive compensation directly from the event are those who offer true expertise on their subject, frequently with celebrity level names associated with them.

Many of those who have achieved celebrity level name recognition frequently also donate their time to charitable organizations.
Reply:Yes most reputable speakers are reimbursed for their services. Some solicite their service to various schools or organizations or obtained via website by an interested party. Educational Speakers are obtained to speak on behalf of a pertinent subject. You might be able to obtain more information from contacting a few schools to find out in detail.
Reply:Most of the time...No. But you can make an offer and state your topics. Always open for discussion.
Reply:Both. Colin Powell made $10,000 per speach after he retired from the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Some people do donate their time, but even those people normally ask for "expenses" which could range from minimal hotel, and food to staying at the Ritz Carlton Penthouse Suite and Surf %26amp;Turf every night. They run the range.
