Weird or not need ur opinion?

My father and I have thought of something to do to make some extra money to help pay bills also have some money to go on trips. My father works at a peanut plant and there is both day/night shift, and we thought of making brisket plates..brisket, beans, and potaoe salad..and sell for 5/plate.. I was wondering if you think this is weird? ha and if you think i should put something other than beans and potatoe salad like another subsitute...just trying to get some ideas from other...Thanks

Weird or not need ur opinion?

Reply:One of my coworkers used to "cater" meals for us in the summer. She would have a sign up sheet in our department (we worked retail). The sheet would list the meal and the price. You could also pick extras like a piece of cake, or some cookies. We would pay in advance (normally about $6 for the complete meal) so that she could shop for the food. It was very successful for her.

Good luck to you.
Reply:It's not wierd it sounds like a good idea, and you should try different stuff and see what sells more and make more of that.

don't listen to people who say you can't or that it's a bad idea, follow your idea!!!
Reply:Yes you can.

You can make cookies and sell them.

Or get people some drinks.

Yes you can.Experiment and explore.

Don't be afraid.
Reply:It's not weird!!! Put all the nutritious foods you want in it!!!!!!!!

Reply:I think it is a great idea. BUT, if you live here in the USA you need to get a license of some sort, your kitchen will be inspected by the health department, and you will need to pay income taxes on what you make. Even people who make tips have to pay income tax on their tips. Sad but true.

If you are caught not doing these things, there is a stiff fine and maybe jail time. Please check it out before you start your own business.

By the way, many factories have a kitchen on wheels that drives up to a place of business and sells food. You might want to check into this. You'd be surprise how even hot dogs sell well. You will need sodas and bottled water too.

I wish you well. You both have a great idea.
Reply:things like that always sell well where i live. They usually sell something like ribs or chicken Or brisket is a good idea with beans, potato salad, and a roll or some type of bread. Also, adding something like cookies or a small peice of cake would be great.
Reply:well, in my town we call it a hood dinner. there are houses usually with little black ladies (not a racial slur, I am mixed) but old black woman that love to cook and get food stamps and they use them to make plates for the neighbors daily. they sell a plate with white bread wrapped in saran wrap and sometimes a generic pop for around 5 bucks. lots of people go and get a plate. especially in the poorer neighborhoods, coz some do not drive and it is usually enough for two and home cooked and good and it keeps the cash in the "family" so to speak instead of some corporate restaurant. there are many rules and regulations about selling food cooked out of your house though. totally against the law. I guess you know that. You have to be approved by the board of health, have a license as a retail establishment no pets can live in a home where food is prepared, etc. they are all on the "down low" like selling bootleg liquor or drugs. Really, i am serious.
Reply:not a bad idea, but i think you can get more than $5 a plate, especially if you do something like give ppl a choice instead of a completely generic menu. maybe something like all plates come with brisket and a choice of 2 sides. adding something like coleslaw a baked potato would work great, and remeber to give ppl drinks, do that and you can charge more and ppl will be happier with it.
Reply:Not weird.

Cole slaw is easier and cheaper to make that potato salad.

Most BBQ dinners also come w/ white bread, pickles, and onion slices. You could lay a deli-wrap sheet over the food and set the bread/onions/pickles on top.
Reply:As long as his company doesn't mind, I think it's a great idea. Put signs up ahead of time so that people know. Cole slaw, corn, green beans, and rolls are great as sides, too (and can be relatively inexpensive).

Good luck!
